7 x 7 Link Award

My pal over at Celluloid Zombie passed along this award, which led me to revisit some old blog posts.

The rules to the 7 x 7 Link Award are simple:

  1. Tell everyone something about yourself that nobody else knows.
  2. Link to a post I think fits the following categories: Most Beautiful Piece, Most Helpful Piece, Most Popular Piece, Most Controversial Piece, Most Surprisingly Successful Piece, Most Underrated Piece, Most Pride Worthy Piece.
  3. Pass this on to 7 fellow bloggers.

And we’re off.

Tell everyone something about yourself that nobody else knows

If not one person knew some deep, dark secret of mine, I can’t imagine why I’d suddenly tell everyone. But here’s the thing…I’m a pretty open person. I’d offer up even the most cringe-inducing confession if I thought someone else would benefit by it. So there you go. Not nearly as exciting as the bodies under the floorboards over at Celluloid Zombie, I know.

1. Most Beautiful Piece

Without hesitation, my most beautiful piece—One Two Three Kick—is about the person responsible for so many happy moments in my childhood (even if I do shudder when re-reading the paragraphs detailing the excessive snacking. What did we know? It was the 70s.)

2. Most Helpful Piece

Felix the Cat and MacGyver inspired this post that I hope encouraged you to consider how the simplest things and a bit of imagination can take life from mundane to memorable. Check out Felix the Cat and MacGyver Picnic on a Purple Sarong.

3. Most Popular Piece

Reading Old Journals…Yikes! struck a chord with many readers. It is my leader in Comments and what great comments they are.

4. Most Controversial Piece

Controverisal? Moi? Well, if you’re planning on hiring me sometime in the future, please don’t read Denim, the evil fabric until we’ve finalized all the contracts.

5. Most Surprisingly Successful Piece

Who could have guessed that my family recipe for Migliaccio (Italian Farina Custard) would top my Most Viewed chart? When did farina, eggs, and sugar become so popular? It just goes to prove that the whole, bubbling concoction is greater than the sum of its parts. With Easter right around the corner, you don’t want to miss this one.

6. Most Underrated Piece

Apparently, readers don’t want to hear about one of the more embarrassing moments in my life or the possibility that Child Protective Services has a file on me for subjecting a minor to naked aliens. If that sort of thing doesn’t interest you either, then don’t read Signs.

7. Most Pride Worthy Piece

My post Travel: Gaeta, Italy in October is the one I’m most proud of. It was a labor of love to condense two of the best weeks of my life into a CliffsNotes travelogue. I’m so hopeful that someone out there will make this very trip and then tell me all about their experience. I love reminiscing about this vacation and I often return to this post to immerse myself in a sea of memories.

My 7 Nominees

I know people are busy, so don’t feel obligated to participate. However, you are the ones that entertain me the most and it would be fun to read some of your posts I may have missed.

Yay! You did it! I hoped you would. Excellent choices for your blogs. I’m glad you chose the One Two Three Kick and Gaeta posts. :-D

I struggled with the ‘tell everyone a secret’ part, too. Very slippery of you to make your confession the fact that you don’t mind making confessions. Have you considered a career in politics? :-P

I just got back from reading about your Nana (#1 above), and I’m quite happily overwhelmed. I have read several of these others as you’ve posted this year, and still have some outstanding posts to browse again. It’s funny how so many of your picks are posts that stuck with me long after you first published (and I originally read) them.

I’m so glad you posted this, and honored that you’d like me to try as well. I’m due to write something and this may be just the ticket.

You seem to know all the best people, Margaret. I always enjoy Celluloid Zombie (Hi, Richard!); every time I drop by there I find another movie I need to watch (again), but the *real* pleasure is in reading what Richard has to say about them. I’ve just got to get better at making the rounds and commenting so that people know how much I appreciate their work, their sarcasm and wit, and their daily reminders not to take this planet TOO seriously.

Thank you so much, Lisa. It’s such a great feeling to know that someone is reading and enjoying what I put out into the world. And you’re absolutely right…it’s so important to let people know. I think that sunk in even deeper after my novel was published. We writers toil away in solitude and it’s nice to know that someone knows we’re still alive. :-)

Richard of Celluloid Zombie is my favorite curmudgeon. I especially love his movie snob posts. He’s beginning to resemble one of those old-man muppets sitting in the balcony. :-)

Booooo! Rubbish comment! Worst comment ever!

To be someone’s favourite curmudgeon on an interweb teeming with them is an honour, indeed. I am deeply touched. Probably.

Hi Lisa. Thank you for your kind words. Trust me, I also struggle to ‘make the rounds’ and spread the love among my blogging peers. I really need to get at it. So much to do and so little time.

This was truly entertaining Margaret. Thanks for the mention. I will try to do you proud. Although I can’t think of anything about myself that no one knows that would be worth mentioning – I’m soooo boring!

Congratulations. I get in such a mess with these awards because I don’t know how to do all the link stuff and all that 7 fav movies and and 5 fav books and other stull ain’t relevant for a 62 year old like me. And the people get insulted.

It does take a lot of time to pull together, Carl, especially if you’re unfamiliar with WordPress functionality.

I can’t imagine why anyone would be insulted. Not everyone has time for these things. There were a few I’ve passed on because I was just too busy.

I’m catching up on my blog reading and what a surprise to find me on here. :) I love this idea and am reading all your posts you mentioned. It is so sad when favorite posts get so lost on the site, and I love bringing them back to the spotlight. Plus I’ve been to busy to write so this might be the boost I need.

    • April 4, 2012 at 8:55 am

That’s exactly how I felt. It was an enjoyable walk down memory lane rather than a pressure-filled, gotta-get-a-blog-written experience.

[...] I always hate how older posts get lost way in the back, and it is always fun to bring a few back up to the spotlight. I really enjoyed reading Margaret’s list of blog posts. [...]

Oh my gosh! I’m totally blushing! I’d like to thank the academy…Oh, wrong award. I got carried away.

Congratulations and Thanks! As I run around packing for the raft trip tomorrow, I find that all I want to do is sit here and read. If I surrender to that desire, I might get left behind.

You’ll be the first place I come when I dry off after the river.

    Big Love and hugs!
